The Hernando High baseball team finished strong in the Farm Bureau Classic, one of the toughest tournaments in the state. The Leopards suffered their first loss of the season on Monday versus Cypress Creek but rebounded with decisive wins over Lecanto and River Ridge.
In the win over Lecanto, junior second baseman Gabe Tafelski led the way at the plate by launching two bombs in the win. Nick Talpa also added a blast as the Leopards defeated the Panthers 9-2 on the day. In their next game against River Ridge, the bats continued to stay hot and were led by Riley Fisher adding to the long ball spree as he connected for a grand slam in the fifth inning. Tafelski continued his hot streak at the plate collecting a couple hits. Jordan Laing hurled six innings allowing on one run on four hits while sitting down six Panthers via strikeout. Trent Maner came in to finish the game in one inning of relief.
Springstead will return next Tuesday when they host Springstead. Tickets can be purchased on www.leopardsathletics.org. Tickets are $5. Digital tickets only as cash will not be accepted. Mask must be worn if social distancing is not being practiced. First pitch is set for 7 PM.
